Green Tree Auto Care is licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to conduct motor vehicle safety inspections and annual inspections for cars, light trucks, and trailers.
An MTO vehicle safety inspection is required when transferring a used vehicle ownership from one owner to a new owner, registering a vehicle from another province, territory or country, or changing the ownership status from “unfit” to “fit”.
An MTO annual vehicle safety inspection is required for commercial trucks and trailers that have a registered GVRW or actual weight of greater than 4500kg.
There is an exemption from annual inspection for personal use in effect since July 2019. This exemption is for truck and trailer combinations that weigh less than 6500kg combined and are registered as “personal use”.
More details about weight limits and exemptions for annual inspections can be found on the Ministry of Transports web site by clicking here.
Briefly, items that will be inspected include exterior lights, bodywork condition, windshield and wipers, tires and wheels, steering and suspension components, driver assistance and safety systems. The list of items for the Ministry of Transport is quite extensive and the document can be viewed by clicking this link. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/trucks/pdfs/passenger-light-duty-vehicle-inspection-standard.pdf
